January 23 is designated as National Pie Day. This day was commissioned by the American Pie Council in 1986 to celebrate the simple joy of sampling a piece of pie.
There are many slices to a pie. Here are some ways to enjoy National Pie Day:
- Busy day? Buy a pie at your local favorite bakery. In fact buy 2 and give one away
- Ask Grandmom or Mom for their favorite pie recipe and bake one for you and one for her
- Teach your son or daughter to bake a pie and celebrate this day together
- Get together with some friends and each of you bake a different kind of pie and divide them up amongst the group
- Bake a pie or 2 or 3 and place them in the teachers lounge at your child’s school. Remember the days when kids would take an apple to school for the teacher? Modern version- take an apple pie instead.
- Gather all your favorite pie recipes in an album and give the album to a new bride or bride to be. She surely will enjoy proven pie recipes and appreciate the warm thoughtful gesture.
- Pick out a pretty new pie plate, cutter, template or recipe and try them out.
- Create your favorite pie with a new twist by adding some surprise ingredients
- Play a family game with going around the table (while enjoying a piece of pie) and each member taking a turn to think of either flavors of pies, or things with the word pie in their name. You will be amazed and delighted with how many things you can come up with.
National Pie Day is a day to celebrate a slice of pie and a slice of life. In fact you may even have a slice or two leftover that you can enjoy tomorrow and all because you took a moment to enjoy National Pie Day- January 23, 2010.
