What better way to welcome in the New Year than by offering a New Year’s Day Open House buffet. People can come and go as they please. It is an easy way to host a party, make all feel welcome and enjoy the first day of the New Year.
Decorations are optional but a left over Happy New Year sign is still appropriate, along with various football accents. There are numerous games on TV on January 1st so just set up a few fan symbols that represent your favorite college team. Keep it simple as today folks want to relax and recuperate from the previous late night.
For your menu some good suggestions are plenty of fruits, vegetables, juices and water. All kinds of finger foods are also appropriate as people may just want to snack their way through the day. You also might want to have on hand a bottle of aspirin, tylenol and even some antacid for those who might be needing them. A main course could be something along the lines of chili, or a hearty soup that could keep warm all day in a crock pot. Any dish containing black eyes peas, like the one listed below, is appropriate as black eyed peas are considered good luck on New Year’s Day. Include some bread, rolls and of course a few sweets and your buffet is complete.
For entertainment just turn on the TV, and even more than one if available and let folks choose what game they want to watch. Try and choose the biggest room availalbe and clear out as much room as possible and this is where folks will tend to gather.
For the kids you may want to have a room available for them to play their video games, or other games so as they will neither be bored or a distraction around the adults. Kids will will enjoy playing their games and having some fun food just as much the bigger kids (the adults) will enjoy watching their beloved football games.
New Year Day is always a day to celebrate as it is the start of a brand new year full of hope, promise, light and laughter. Go ahead plan that open house and welcome the New Year with your family and friends.
